Happy March, everyone! What are you reading this month? I'm starting with the vintage mystery The Murder of My Aunt by Richard Hull, which will knock out both letters of the AlphaKIT. Please share what you're reading or planning to read below!
2LisaMorr
I'm continuing with The 1619 Project which I started in February for Black History Month, and still fits the March CalendarCAT for International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination. I'm also starting The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks for the HistoryCAT and AlphaKIT.
3lsh63
I just started reading Everyone Here is Lying. I've been very remiss about planning my monthly reading, I must rectify that!
4DeltaQueen50
I am partway through The Witch Elm by Tana French and also The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden. Enjoying both these books.
5amberwitch
I also started The Bear and the Nightingale recently. Then I got distracted by Some desperate glory which is pretty amazing.
I should get back to it before it has to go back to the library.

I read The Christmas Hedgehog for letter "H" in AlphaKit challenge and an Early Reviewer win. It was a beautiful picture book with a story about sharing.
I am currently trying to finish The Boys in the Boat for our community book group. I just started Vera Wong's Unsolicited Advice for Murderers and am finding it to be hilarious. I want to be Vera Wong when I grow up!

Happy March! I recently started Becky Chambers' The Long Way To A Small Angry Planet, I'm loving it so far, I'm close to 100 pages in. It's a found family sci-fi story that already had me unable to set it down.
8pamelad
I finished We by Yevgeny Zamyatin and am half-way through The Heart's Invisible Furies by John Boyne, which begins in 1946. The main character is gay, and Ireland was a dangerous place.
9Charon07
I’m almost finished with The Spear Cuts through Water, I’ve started Rebecca, and I’m listening to Plain Bad Heroines, all for various BingoDog squares. When I finish Spear, I’ve got Chilling Effect cued up for the SFFKit and Piranesi for the PrizeCAT.
10christina_reads
I'm starting The Lady in the Coppergate Tower by Nancy Campbell Allen.
11dudes22
I'm reading The Morisot Connection by Estelle Ryan and I need to finish my "F" book from February The Garden Angel by Mindy Friddle. I have 3 books waiting for pick-up at the library so I'll be starting them too soon.
12Norashnesor
I have just finished Unnatural History, the latest Alex Delaware book by Jonathan Kellerman.
I’m also in the middle of Babel: Or the Necessity of Violence by R. F. Kuang.
Enjoying both.

I finished Two and Two are Four by Carolyn Haywood for my BingoDog challenge card.
14MissBrangwen
I have finished The Hanging Garden by Ian Rankin, which to me was the best Rebus book so far! I also read Die Nesträuber by Brigitte Blobel, a book from a long children's series I loved as a child and am slowly filling in the gaps.
Now I am reading The Spoilt Kill by Mary Kelly, one of the British Library Crime Classics.

I am still working on The Once and Future King by T. H. White which is a carryover from January that I am not enjoying as much as I was expecting.
I've also started a few others to have a little variety to choose from: Queen of Bedlam by Robert R. McCammon, Harsh Cry of the Heron by Lian Hearn and The Nine Eyes of Lucien by Madeleine Roux.

I, too, am re-reading The Once and Future King and have made it to Section 2. I have not read the gruesome chapters in this section - they were traumatizing enough when I was 14.
Also near the end of Last Train from Atlanta and have ordered the next Maggie Sefton from the library for some quick reading.
I'll check the various challenges to decide what else I will read this month.

>17 threadnsong: I'm almost finished with the third book. I did find the second part a bit difficult to get through. Especially the unicorn scene . Apparently, there are two different versions of the second book. The first one, The Witch in the Woods, is said to be longer and even more violent than the Queen of Air and Darkness.
19Helenliz
I'm reading Antarctica by Claire Keegan on paper and listening to Conversations with friends by Sally Rooney.
20VivienneR
I'm reading She-Wolves: the women who ruled England before Elizabeth by Helen Castor. I started it over a week ago and even though it's taking me a while I'm enjoying it thoroughly. So far I expect it to be a five-star read.
21Helenliz
>20 VivienneR: It's also an excellent 3 part TV series.
22cbl_tn
I read Maybe over the weekend, and I'm currently reading Half a Crown. I'm nearly finished with the audio of Skellig and I have The Longmire Defense lined up for my next listen.
23christina_reads
I'm now reading Death Comes to Bath by Catherine Lloyd.
24VivienneR
>21 Helenliz: Thanks for that information, Helen. I went off searching for it on DVD but no luck. I have it in hardback and ebook but the TV series would be good. Castor's writing is so descriptive that I can imagine the events. And even though I've always loved history, there has been information new to me.
25dudes22
I'm just about finished with West With Giraffes by Lynda Rutledge and I picked up Slow Horses by Mick Herron at the library yesterday and also True Biz by Sara Novic which is our next book club pick.
26hailelib
Now mainly reading To the Edge of the World by Harry Thompson and The Root of Wild Madder by Brian Murphy. Also started The State Counsellor by Boris Akunin.
27christina_reads
I've begun The Gate of Gods by Martha Wells, the final book in her Fall of Ile-Rien trilogy.

I carried over Shadows in Bronze (Marcus Didius Falco #2; by Lindsey Davis; narrated by Simon Prebble) from the end of February and into March, finishing late last night. I need a tiny break from Falco if only because after having stayed up late and unexpectedly having feelings after having done, I have a bit of a book hangover.
I've opted to listen to Save Me the Plums: My Gourmet Memoir (written and narrated by Ruth Reichl) which is about the author's editorial stewardship of Gourmet Magazine until Condé Nast shuttered the magazine in 2009. This is a book club pick and TBH, not really my thing: I'm not a foodie or much of a carnivore (I'm a pescatarian and while the description of preparing a suckling pig is not particularly graphic, it is detailed enough to make me a little queasy) and the author's self-effacing humility doesn't ring true. And even though I usually make large allowances for those who narrate their own memoirs, Ms Reichl's reading is pretty unenthusiastic. It's a short book though and I'll probably finish over the weekend.
I'm still reading The Rise and Reign of Mammals: A New History from the Shadow of Dinosaurs to Us (by Steve Brusatte) - It's a bit more technical and not as much fun as his previous book, The Rise and Fall of Dinosaurs: A New History of a Lost World but I really want to stick with it.
I'm also still reading The Name of the Rose (by Umberto Eco) - This is one of those books that most people who know me, don't quite believe I haven't already read it, but it's true! I only read this one when I have my laptop or cell phone in hand so I can translate all the Latin. It's getting easier as the words are starting to come back to me but still slow going. Il'l probably make more headway this weekend and then finish up the next.

I'm reading The Appeal by Janice Hallett, which has started well. It's epistolary, so will count for a Bingo square.
30LadyoftheLodge
I just finished Changes for Samantha for BingoDog challenge and Half Truths for my reading for Lent. I am still finishing Bikinis and Murder from Kindle Unlimited.
31cbl_tn
I'm currently reading Beyond the Body Farm. I should easily finish it this weekend. Dr. Bass is a local author, and I remember hearing about several of the cases discussed in the book in our local news.
32dudes22
I picked up a couple more books from the library yesterday - The Vanishing Man by Charles Finch and The Royal Art of Poison by Eleanor Herman.
33Helenliz
Finished Antarctica on paper, and started English Animals.
I also finished listening to Conversations with friends, next up for the ears is Plain Murder by CS Forster.

34LadyoftheLodge
I finished A Day With a Perfect Stranger by David Gregory.

I'm reading The Leopard is Loose by Stephen Harrigan. The author grew up in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the 1950s. This book is based on the time a leopard escaped from the city's zoo.
36threadnsong
I picked up some holds at the library over the weekend, and wouldn't you know, I saw something on display that I just had to have! It's a book on a set of quadruplets in Lansing, MI, who were all diagnosed as schizophrenic in the 1950's as young women, just as NIMH was getting started. Their lives were horrendous, and that is part of this book's viewpoint: how early childhood abuse is now seen as being a part of a trigger for mental illness. The contrast between then and now is astounding.
37cbl_tn
I am reading In Cold Blood. So far everyone is still alive. We'll see how well I handle the murders.
38LisaMorr
>37 cbl_tn: I didn't think I would like In Cold Blood as much as I did. I hope you like it.
39DeltaQueen50
I picked up The Fairacre Festival by Miss Read last night but will probably finish it this afternoon. It's a short one. I am also reading The Fever Tree by Jennifer McVeigh and will start High Midnight by Stuart Kaminsky later on as well.
40lsh63
I'm juggling The Hunter, Study for Obedience, Murder Road, and Inheritance from Mother. I think the books are varied enough that I won’t get the plotlines mixed up.
41LadyoftheLodge
I just finished Murder in New Orleans by Ann Sutton. I am in the process of finishing Letters of Wisdom by Wanda Brunstetter which is third in a series, and just started Public Anchovy #1 which is part of a series too.
42hailelib
Right now I am mainly reading The State Counsellor and also To the Edge of the World where I just finished Book 2 Part 1.
43Helenliz
Finished English Animals on paper. Next up is Get in Trouble.
And for the ears, I finished Plain Murder next up is Misjustice

Finished Save Me the Plums: My Gourmet Memoir (written and narrated by Ruth Reichl) - Not my cup of tea but it did int me in the direction of two other books I'd like to read: M.F.K. Fisher's Consider the Oyster and David Foster Wallace's Consider the Lobster and Other Essays).
Decided to table The Rise and Reign of the Mammals: A New History, from the Shadow of the Dinosaurs to Us (by Stephen Brusatte) for another time. I've been sick for the past few weeks with a nasty, exhausting virus (complete with cough) which has left me not in the mood for too much reading. So, I've lost the momentum on it for now but willing to pick it up again some time in the future.
Still picking away at The Name of the Rose (by Umberto Eco; translated from thr Italian by William Weaver). Since I already know what the ending is owning to the movie, I'm focusing more on the semiotics and theological/philosophical passages. It's time to commit to finishing it off this week though!
ETA: It looks like ‘The Rise and Reign of the Mammals’ hits the touchstone when I write the post but when I actually post, no link 🤷🏻♀️

I finished In Cold Blood this evening and I'm getting ready to start Skirts: Fashioning Modern Femininity in the Twentieth Century. I'm currently listening to The Salt Path.
46DeltaQueen50
I am enjoying Stars Uncharted by S. K. Dunstall, my space opera choice for this months SFFKit. I am also just starting Perfume by Patrick Suskind.
47christina_reads
I was on vacation last week and didn't spend any time on LT, but I did read a fair bit! I finished Stella Riley's A Trick of Fate, Erle Stanley Gardner's The Bigger They Come, Chloe Angyal's Pas de Don't, Robin McKinley's Rose Daughter, and Anne Gracie's Marry in Scandal. I'm currently in the middle of Mariana Zapata's From Lukov with Love.
48Tanya-dogearedcopy
>47 christina_reads: I'm not into ice skating or slow burns, but I adore From Lukov with Love!
49christina_reads
>48 Tanya-dogearedcopy: I definitely stayed up way too late last night reading it!
50LisaMorr
I finished The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and am still working on The 1619 Project and Watership Down, while continuing to dip into The Arabian Nights Entertainments.
51clue
I and another million people are reading The Women by Kristen Hannah, her new book about army nurses in Vietnam.
52LadyoftheLodge
I just finished Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Cabin Fever for the BingoDog challenge. Also nearly done with On Retreat with Thomas Merton which is not what I expected but I am enjoying the black and white photos of Merton's hermitage.
53christina_reads
I'm nearly done with Mary Balogh's Heartless, which I'm enjoying, though I don't think it'll be a keeper for me.
54hailelib
Just finished Book 2 of To the Edge of the World (aka This Thing of Darkness) and will pause a while before Book 3. Meanwhile, I have downloaded Rose Daughter from the public library and will start that today. I've also got Four Lost Cities started.
55DeltaQueen50
I am reading Bright Day Dawning by Anna Jacobs, the third book in the 4 book Preston Sisters series. I am also just starting Island of a Thousand Mirrors by Nayomi Munaweera.
56Tanya-dogearedcopy
Finished two cozy mysteries: the historical-fiction set in 17th-century Bavaria, The Dark Monk (The Hangman’s Daughter #2; by Oliver Pötzsch; translated from the German by Lee Chadeayne; narrated by Grover Gardener) and, the present-day story, The Secret, Book & Scone Society (The Secret, Book & Scone Society #1; by Ellery Adams).
I’ve started The Waste Lands (Dark Tower III; by Stephen King; narrated by Frank Muller).
ETA: It looks like ‘The Waste Lands’ hits the touchstone when I write the post but when I actually post, no link 🤷🏻♀️

I've begun Assistant to the Villain by Hannah Nicole Maehrer, which is silly but entertaining.
58LadyoftheLodge
I am currently reading Where We Belong from Kindle Unlimited, which I am enjoying as a light read. Also reading Coconut Drop Dead which is #3 in a series. The story seems to be moving slowly and the author is big on writing about the details of what every person is wearing which does not matter to me.
59Helenliz
I finished Get in trouble on paper. Next up is After the mourning
Still listening to Misjustice in the car.

I've been alternating between Slow Horses by Mick Herron and True Biz by Sara Novic. Hope to finish both in the next couple of days.
61Charon07
I’ve finished all the books I mentioned in >9 Charon07: (The Spear Cuts through Water and Piranesi were excellent). I’m now reading The All-Consuming World by Cassandra Khaw, The Plight of the Living Dead by Matt Simon (this is nonfiction about parasites, but these two are quite the pair in terms of grisly unpleasantness), and War with the Newts by Karel Čapek for various personal categories. I’m also cheating by starting my April SFFKit, The Paradox Hotel by Rob Hart early, but it’s an audiobook, and I might listen to another audiobook for my April PrizeCat, and with limited listening time, I want to make sure I can fit them both in.
62christina_reads
I'm currently enjoying His Convenient Duchess by Louise Allen.
63Helenliz
Finished listening to Misjustice, Helena Kennedy. To hear her discuss murder in that classic Glasgow accent was worth the admission price alone!
64DeltaQueen50
I am finishing off March with Chill Factor by Stuart Pawson and Slammer by Allan Guthrie.
65hailelib
I'm in the last stretch in To the Edge of the World as I'm part way through Book 3 - Part 2. Also into a new book from the library - The Last Devil to Die and two others.
66LadyoftheLodge
Just finished The Secret Ingredient and Coconut Drop Dead, currently reading Where we Belong, Pineapple Street, and Evening Class.
67MissBrangwen
I have finished Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas and am now starting Death Is Not The End, a novella by Ian Rankin.
I have also finally finished Goblin Market and Other Poems by Christina Rossetti, which I read for a long, long time. Now I am looking forward to getting into other kinds of poetry!
On audio, I am about half way through Slightly Scandalous by Mary Balogh and am enjoying it after a bit of a rocky start.

I finished Malta Exchange and thought it was a bit too disjointed to really enjoy its delving into the Knights of Malta, the (fictional) Churchill-Mussolini letters, and the Island of Malta. I also got part-way through this month's SFFKit challenge book, A Memory Called Empire and then decided it was not for me. I'm also devouring The Woman with the Cure as an additional entry for the March HistoryCAT Challenge and hope to finish it tomorrow.
69rabbitprincess
Closed out the month with So Fetch, a book about the making of Mean Girls.
70LisaMorr
I finished Watership Down over the weekend - so glad I finally read it!
