If I have one frustration at all with the fun on LT, it's that we have such a depth of readers, and such thin discussions on books.

Your post made MY day, because even though I don't read the style of books the original person was asking about, it was so very evident (her?) needs were being sidetracked without thought.

Your post is not just a gift to readers looking for their next title, but to the authors who work so hard to produce the books - it is everything when the books reach the right hands, and readers are so important in that link.

Hi Sanne!

You asked about where in Turku you could find fantasy and science fiction books. I haven't been in Turku recently, but I think that the Akateeminen kirjakauppa is probably your best choice. It is the biggest bookstore in Turku and they have usually a good selection of English books (also paper backs). The address is Eerikinkatu 15 (it is centrally situated). Their telephone is +358-9-121 9998. Unfortunately I don't know if there are any bookstores that are specialized in fantasy and science fiction.

I just finished Painter of Battles.Wow. What I love is the extraordinary skill and power of the writing.I love to read almost any topic..what I admire is good writing.This author has written about such diverse topics. This book is about a war photo journalist turned painter who is confronted by one of his subjects. But there is so much knowledge, for instance, in the book about war and paintings--good grief...an entire new subject to explore.
I thoroughly enjoyed the love story piece in the book..he has unusual insight into women..his characters are quite
believeable.
Have you read it? Oh do please.

i appreciate your lengthy suite of reviews..will be very helpful in deciding where to direct my reading next. Hadn't heard of [Wicked Gentlemen] but intend to pick it up either @ the library (w. luck) or at a local bookstore.

Hi There. You introduced me to Arturo Perez-Reverte...thank you, thank you, thank you. I am SO impressed with his writing and his TOPICS. The books have sent me off on searches for paintings and museums....what a TREAT. I work for an airline in an airport and I tell someone every day about this site and what a pleasure it is to talk with folks about books. If they are carrying a book I talk to them about this website.
I am almost finished the Painter of Battles. Wow.

I gradually forgot most of my danish over the years, until I went to graduate school. The challenge of learning new stuff must have stimulated my brain in just the right way, because one day suddenly, when I was walking to class, I started thinking again in danish about what I would do, if I could travel back for a vacation.

Da jeg først gik i gang blev jeg helt bidt af at finde nye interessante steder. Har indtil videre en liste på en 8-10 boghandlere/bogcaféer/antikvariater jeg ikke anede eksistere, men som jeg helt sikkert må besøge når jeg en dag får tid. :)

Jeg var på Eurocon sidste år, så jeg regner også med at afsætte noget tid til at besøge Fantasticon i år + komiks.dk ser rigtig spændende ud med alle de udenlandske tegnere/forfattere, der kommer.

I read Queen of the South after seeing your recommendation.........fabulous book!
There is so much in it about women and their lives I may actually buy a copy to keep.

No data from Amazon, but I did find a surprising number in the collections of the Library of Congress and at UC. I expected to find the classical music, but not as much rock as I did. One of my rocker friends has commented that he's going to send his cds to LC -- "the nearest thing to immortaliy" . The balance I did manually; it didn't take that long.
