From the landing at Juno Beach, through the awful grind in Belgium and Holland to the final burst across the North German plain this is the official account of the last phase of Canada's European WWII. The mapping is very good, and the prose is clear. If you are interested in the clearing of Antwerp, and why the Allied Armies ate in the winter of 1944 -45, this book gives a big part ofthe explanation. More Americans should read it.

A Collection of Essays by presumably grateful students. He was a considerable historian of Canada's WWII Army and a competent but not engaging writer.½

though not a lively read, this is volume one of the Official History of the Canadian Army in the second world War. It has as high points the defence of Hong Kong and the raid on Dieppe. It begins with a short description of the Canadian Militia from the peace of 1918 to the outbreak of the war in 1939. Then we cover the domestic matters regarding recruitment and training. The Army in Britain follows with the raid on Dieppe. The War in the Pacific, with the defense of Hong Kong, and the action in the Aleutians. Useful rather than entertaining.½
