This book was created by the rightwing lobby to be able to say that they had "refuted the claims" made Naomi Klein in her book the Shock Doctrine. However, there aren't really any arguments and the book was mostly read by people that never had read Kleins own book, thus believing the authors to be correct.

Norberg at least uses arguments and some sources (mostly copied from american sites) and scores some points against Klein. Howver, Benulic is right up in the sky talking about who knows what.

This book consists of two large articles meant to prove wrong the claims made by Naomi Klein in her book “The chock Doctrine.” The first, by Free Market advocate Johan Norberg, sets out to prove that the portrait he sees presented by her of Milton Friedman as the evil leader of a world capitalist conspiracy is based on wrong or misrepresented quotations, and that Klein mixes up Neo Conservatism sometimes, and Corporatism and Fascism at other times, with Market Liberalism.

The second article, by Marxist Boris Benulic, mainly attacks the alleged claim made in the “Chock Doctrine” that things are getting worse, capitalism is today more brutal than ever. To do this he, among other things, presents a large section on Allied brutality against Nazi Germany; which of course is as full of horror as what Naomi Klein presents of more modern tragedies, but still seems a bit of an odd choice. One suspects that Benulic is something of an expert on the plight of the Germans in the forties elsewhere in printed matter as well.

Benulic disclaims that this and that country in Klein’s book were really Socialistic, Norberg that others were truly economically free.

You need to know Swedish and to recently have read the “Chock Doctrine” to enjoy this book, but if these criteria are filled the book might well be worth the quite low price of 37 SEK. ( )
