Gonxha (Agnes) Bojaxhiu was born in Skopje, the capital of the Albanian Republic of Macedonia. Her father was a politician with strong nationalistic convictions and was allegedly murdered when she was eight years old. The Roman Catholic church next door became the center of the family's life. When she was eighteen Agnes traveled by train across Europe to study for the novitiate of the Order of the Sisters of Loretto. She was a teacher of history and geography at St, Mary's School in Calcutta, India, and most happy being so until 1946 when she received an undeniable call to serve the poor of that city by living among them. She had to leaver her Order to do so and have special permission from Rome.

Incredible words of wisdom from a woman who clearly had a great love for Jesus and humanity. Possibly one of the most inspiring books I've read in a long time. Her message is simple but very profound and touching.

This world would be a much better place if the rest of us could love with an ounce of the love that Mother Teresa expressed to those around her. I recommend this to everyone -- whether you are Catholic, Protestant, Jewish, Muslim, Agnostic or of any other creed... I think we can all be inspired in some way by her words of love and agree that she was special. ( )
