A book that I decided to read by an author whom I have not read and who has a series I knew nothing about! I loved the style and enjoyed this new world that I got to explore. The characters are interesting, complex, and challenging in their own way. The plot had twists and turns I did not see coming. The ending was both satisfying and unsatisfying. It both wrapped up the current story but left the reader knowing there is much more to come. I will be going back and reading the series while avidly watching for the next book in this series. ( ) Unfortunately, I do not feel like reviewing. But charlie Adhara has written a completely different, tender, and interesting dynamic within her couple. This isn't Oliver & Cooper, but she deftly puts the intriguing Eli with a hero who is...sweet. and brave. And maybe hiding stuff but not feelings. And it worked really well. This definitely kept me reading. I'm generally a little picky about paranormal fantasy/romance, so I didn't really expect much from this. Usually everything within the genre falls somewhere around 3,5 stars for me, but this one was a treat! The story itself isn't particularly mind blowing or special, but I thought the writing was really solid, and I really liked the characters. They were pretty well written and multifaceted, and I felt like their pasts showed through in their actions. I just really liked reading about them, and I can't wait for the sequel. I pretty much hate insta love in stories, but I don't mind books where the characters are attracted to each other from the get go, without trying to make me believe they are suddenly in love after having litterally just met. I appreciate an author who recognizes the difference between being in love and having a crush that could potentially lead to more later on. The mystery aspect was pretty traditionally structured and I didn't really guess the real culprit. Though I have to say, the way the story was told, I don't think I could have guessed it correctly based on the clues and red herrings. I didn't mind too much, though. This had the perfect balance of tension for me. It held me in its grip from beginning to end, but it managed to do it without making me feel anxious at any point. I've read the first two books in Adhara's lead up series to this one, and I think I'll have to finish that one while I wait for The Den of Thieves to come out. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

Julien Doran arrived in sleepy Maudit Falls, North Carolina, with a heart full of hurt and a head full of questions. The key to his brother's mysterious last days might be found in this tiny town, and now Julien's amateur investigation is starting to unearth things the locals would rather keep buried. Perhaps most especially the strange, magnetic manager of a deserted retreat that's nearly as odd as its staff. Eli Smith is a lot of things: thief, werewolf, glamor-puss, liar. And now the manager of a haven for rebel pack runaways. He's spent years cultivating a persona to disguise his origins, but for the first time ever he's been entrusted with a real responsibility--and he plans to take that seriously. Even if the handsome tourist who claims to be in town for some R & R is clearly on a hunt for all things paranormal. And hasn't taken his brooding gaze off Eli since he's arrived. When an old skeleton and a fresh corpse turn a grief errand into a murder investigation, the unlikely Eli is the only person Julien can turn to. Trust is hard to come by in a town known for its monsters, but so is time... Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |
