I enjoyed the first book but it took a little while (80 pages or so) to get back into this story, since not much was happening with the characters at first (friends drifting apart, getting ready for post-highschool plans, that bigoted creep Aaron making vague threats). After it got going though, I was hooked and am ready for the next book!
I wish the author would write something acknowledging nonbinary pronouns in the beginning (rather than waiting until p.49), something to say "Roe is okay with using 'he' or 'they'" or "Roe doesn't think any of the pronouns really fit and accepts that 'he' is as good/bad as any" because it feels like an oversight to remark on Roe preference for ungendered words but then just keep repeatedly using "he" without at least acknowledging how a nonbinary person feels about it. The topic is discussed more at length (thank you! pronouns are complicated sometimes!) later on in the book, but until Roe says it's ok, usage of 'he' feels just uncomfortable enough for me to keep noticing it. I realize it was probably covered in the first book and I just don't remember, but a quick acknowledgement at the very beginning would be appreciated. ( )
