Maybe it's the brightly-coloured artwork, maybe it's the liberal use of textual sounds, maybe the writing but this comic seems very much aimed at the teen market. I came to this based on Grendel, a sophisticated comic by the same author, so I was a little disappointed with the stereotypes and the clunky plot exposition of this one. It reminded me of an awkward pilot of a new TV show, trying at once to introduce many characters and give them some shred of plot to interact with, while selling the show concept to audiences and network executives alike. I love Mirth. Um, and also the introduction of this world. Fun urban fantasy. The art starts out pretty poor, but it gets better--and there's always energy and a good sense of movement to even the very earliest pages. ( )
