( ) This is a short chapter book with three separate stories. Lucy has some adventures with her animal friends. The Snack shows sharing and caring as well as having a good eye before you eat something, The Treasure Hunt about a fun afternoon that ends in a surprise, and The Hatchlings where the snail finds eggs that hatch and think he is their mother. Throughout the stories, Anton the bear appears to be rather a grumpy fellow until the end. A perfect book for reading aloud or for building confidence with beginning readers. There is not a lot of text on the page and the illustrations are cute and will allow the reader time to pause to check them out. This would be a great book for family, classroom and school libraries for either a read aloud or independent beginner readers. I received a copy of this book from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. A picture book, translated from French, of "three everyday adventures": The Snack, The Treasure Hunt, The Hatchlings. Rosy-cheeked Lucy and her animal friends go about their business peacefully in the woods, sharing snacks, arranging birthday surprises, and nurturing some ducklings. It is a long book, but with very little text on each page, and the chapters make it feel a bit like an early reader. See also: Chirri & Chirra by Kaya Doi Sweetly illustrated, this book reminds me of the simple, friendly stories of my own childhood. There’s nothing sly or wink-wink about it, nothing trying to also appeal to the grownups. These stories are about friendship and childhood, with no big “message” involved. Possible Objectionable Material: A child alone in the woods. Who Might Like This Book: Children who like simple, non-threatening, non-preachy stories with simple illustrations. This is definitely for the pre-K to grade 1 or 2 crowd; I'd disregard that suggested 8-12 age range. Thank you, NetGalley, for the ARC.
