You're the Lights. Sebastian had one rule. No women on the back of his bike. Period. The one time he broke that rule, he killed the woman that was carrying his child. Then comes Baylee Roberts. She makes Sebastian want to break every single rule he'd ever implemented. Hell, but she even makes him consider that dreaded H word. A helmet. To My . . . Baylee Roberts innocently walked into her bathroom never expecting that she'd find a man in there. It is her bathroom after all, and she lives alone. From the instant he placed his hat on her head to protect her from the sun, Baylee's mind becomes filled with thoughts of a certain biker. She really shouldn't go there. There's no telling what kind of dangerous things he does for The Dixie Wardens MC. Siren . . . Nothing is ever as easy as it should be. Their relationship's one of them. Baylee's brother is a cop. Baylee's father is a cop. Which inevitably means that Baylee's going to have certain hang-ups about being with a man like himself. Sebastian has a lot on his plate with his busy job as a firefighter, a single father, and the vice president of The Dixie Wardens MC. Not enough, though, to keep him away from Baylee. Contains mature themes.… (mais)

In general I liked this mc romance. Considering the generally high level of the writing I was pretty surprised at the constant errors in tense. Fairly often sentences were written using third person in this first person narrative. If first person in hard for you just use third person. It's easy and we ll know it well enough that it is hard to mess up and frankly this reader prefers it. I'd never read another line of first person again if I could manage it. Another writing oddity that bugged me was the odd time jumps. I don't mind time jumps per see but here the jumps seemed oddly placed. Like the author continually skipped over scenes that should have been written. Instead she would jump ahead in time and just tell you that a scene had happened and many times that was a scene that I had been expecting and even looking forward to.

All that being said, the book was enjoyable. I liked that the mc club is mostly legit and I am not having to overlook the fact that my hero is a murderer. The story also stayed pretty tightly focused on the romantic relationship. I did think that just one physical condition would have been enough for the heroine especially since the adhd wasn't fully addressed in my opinion. Also even though this is the first of a series, I felt like I was missing something in some of the things that were said or happened, like there were previous books maybe.

Gonna try more in the series. ( )

Sebastian is a fire fighter, in a bike club and is on probation and from the moment he meets Baylee he wants her. Baylee's an EMT, with a cop brother. She was injured when a vehicle crashed her ambulance, which is causing her some difficulties. Baylee is a bit of a clutz which is problematic since she has a condition that makes her bleed a lot, she also has ADHD which can lead her into trouble. These two are very likeable and I liked reading about their journey. There were a few editing issues and offshoot themes that didn't go anywhere. I'm guessing they are laying ground for future stories but it felt incomplete at times. Even with those distractions I found myself wanting to read this story straight through.

Lights to My Siren is book 1 of the Dixie Wardens MC series. Bailey is an EMT who has moved to Kilgore Texas for a fresh start. Sebastian is a fire fighter and VP of the Dixie Wardens MC. These two meet by chance and sparks fly. They have a lot of struggles-Sebastian has a son, both of their work schedules are crazy, and Sebastian isn't exactly open about his life in the MC.

In the beginning, I was not a fan of Bailey. She is kind of judgmental. She assumes then worst about Sebastian and then seems surprised when he isn't a thug. However, as the story goes on, I liked Bailey more and Sebastian less. Sebastian is HORRIBLE sometimes. He keeps her totally in the dark about the club, then gets pissed when she doesn't seem to know. Then he gets pissed at her about all kinds of things. He doesn't ever discuss anything with her but barks and yells. I felt like he was so stubborn and expected Bailey to change to meet his expectations.

The story is mostly a string of events as opposed to one over arching storyline. I think this method of storytelling allows the reader/listener to not get bored. It also makes the relationship feel more natural. So, I give Vale kudos for this method because it makes for a good listen.

Lidia Dornet narrated another book I listened to previously (When I Need You) and I really enjoyed her narration. She does a great job of really 'performing' the story. Tristan James is a new to me narrator and he did a fine job. He has the slight twang down pat and his female voices aren't annoyingly overdone.
"I read to escape reality not to deal with characters dying"

This quote from Bailey is perfect and so true!

  • POV: dual 1st

  • Tears: no

  • Trope: MC Club

  • Triggers: none

  • Series/Standalone: stand alone

  • Cliffhanger: no

  • HEA:

...then you will probably like Lights to my Siren!
