Terrible writing ( ) The Prettiest One by James Hankins is a advertised as a thriller but it really a mystery about a woman who returns home after disappearing without a trace months earlier. She returns home to her husband with a new hair color, blood on her clothes, a gun, and a bag full of mannequin heads. She doesn’t remember anything - her name, where she’s been, or why she left home in the first place. The story is about how she, with the help of her husband and her new boyfriend, uncover what happened to her and why she disappeared. I give this book four stars out of five because it was advertised as a thriller but it is really a mystery. The book is well-written and the story flows pretty well. I’m not enamored by the boyfriend character (he snipes at the husband excessively.) While the fact that the main character has amnesia makes for a good story, I think it makes it difficult to establish believable relationships with her husband and boyfriend since she doesn’t remember either one of them. At one point in the story, her “true self” emerges which moves the story along but I wasn’t sold on the premise. There are plenty of twists in the story and perhaps the only thrill in the story is near the end when she is captured and thrown in the trunk of a car. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

Desperate to learn the truth about where she's been and what has happened to her but terrified of what she might find, Caitlin embarks on a search for answers that takes her from the safe suburban world she knows to a seedy town she's never heard of, where a terrible truth from her past lies hidden- a truth she can't quite remember yet can't completely forget."--Back cover.
