Oliver is a very serious cat, nicely illustrated in Werner Stejskal’s children’s story series. He has a solemn turn of phrase as he narrates his tales. In the first of this collection, he introduces Bearly, son of the bear family. “Whenever his parents go out, I am asked to babysit him,” he tells readers, adding, “The last time had been a couple of months ago.” Nice touches in these stories include the idea of animals using the trampoline to reach the veranda of a tree house. Children will enjoy imagining how that works. And when Bearly is illustrated hiding under a fish tank, they will delight in waiting for what happens next. But all is well until Bearly disappears, then other animals join in the search, with nicely drawn and imagined mutual support. In the next tale a tigerly cat is depressed. Loss and sorrow are nicely introduced in a way that’s non-threatening and easy for children to understand. Finally, Jumpy the kangaroo returns, and children are invited to a slightly scary wizard’s castle to learn magic and take flying lessons – but “Try not to jump out any windows though! Flying with the magic want only works in Sillandia.” Fun tales, brightly illustrated, told in a very recognizable voice, and offering some truly neat ideas – enjoy. H2>Children Books: Old style cat cartoons with many animal adventures.Oliver is an elegant tuxedo cat, who is full of himself. As a matter of fact he says: "I love myself!", quite often. Naughty, isn't he? But his best friend Jumpy, a kangaroo lady, is aware that he has a soft heart and will always want to help others. The great thing is Jumpy's pouch, which Oliver loves to ride in! He calls her his kangaroo taxi! These little bedtime stories with their lovely illustrations are great for small kids. A parent can read the text and tell the child in his own words. These animal stories have sufficient text to keep early readers happy and provide some educational value. Love you all! Meow!
