Thirteen-year-old Cassina Dixon narrates her existence after being killed in a terrorist bombing, when, as a "para-spirit," she passes through a series of hosts, including the bomber and the religious zealot who would force him to kill again. ( )

Cassina Dixon and her sister Aelfin find themselves in the wrong place at the wrong time. After being blown up by terrorists, Aelfin is sent to heaven while Cassina becomes a para-spirit and finds she can travel in living people's brains seeing what they are thinking and feeling by seeing certain colors in their brains. Cassina finds herself in the brain of her would-be killer, Akim. She finds his compassion and resistance to doing this again against the wishes of his commander and friend Habril. Akim can never die so Habril feels he should keep terrorizing the US, but Akim develops very different feelings. ( )
