I'm doing some research for a project and I'd like to enlist your help. I'd like to know if you have found a plce in Houston that you think is sorely overrated and why. Also, would you have an alterative to offer? It would be something along the lines of xxx place is really overrated because.... but if you go here xXXXX or even XXX you'll like it better because.....

It can be a restaurant, an attraction, whatever.

Thanks in advance--Vikk

Can you give us more info on the project (before we start beating Houston to a pulp)? Also, can you give a more specific example as to what kind of stuff you're looking for? I just need a reference to begin. Do you want any restaurant (including national chains), or local only, or Texas only. If I tell you that Benagins is overrated, I probably haven't given you a great deal of information.

It's a travel-related project. I'm trying to get a feel for what others might think about the attractions, etc. in Houston and if there are any that are deemed to be highly overrated. It could be any place that is touted to be a great place for visitors to check out. So that would include high-profile restaurants, tourist attractions (main, trendy, or off-beat), etc. So if you had friends coming to town would there be a place that is usually touted as a place to visit that you would nix and suggest something else?

Does that help?

Ok, finally getting back to this. Two things stand out for me.

-- NASA: As far as I can tell a pricey trip to the Houston Space Center has nothing to offer except a kind of cool playground for the kids. I wonder whether I somehow missed the big exhibit there.

-- Pappasitos: Expensive, second-rate Tex-Mex food in a city full of great Mexican and Tex-mex. So, why is it so popular? Ninfra's is similar, except prices and expectations are a little lower. As for other Papas restaurants, they are ALL overpriced, but they are not all bad.

I'm having trouble thinking of anything else (although I keep coming up with things that are underrated). Maybe if some posts accumulate, they will remind me of other things.
