Hi, I'm new to the group! I've been reading "The Memoirs of Lady Trent" series by Marie Brennan. They used to be very easy to find at Barns & Nobel, but after the final book in the seires they quit stocking it for some odd reason. I'm currently on book three - "Voyage of the Basilisk". I blazed through books one and two last year, had to take a break just because of my busy schedual, and now I'm back with book three. It's a little slower at the start than the first two, but it picks up pretty quickly. It's also got this odd thing where it was printed with blue ink (when I got it at the store, I checked other coppies and they were all printed in blue - don't know if that's the case everywhere else).
Anyone else read this series? If so - I'd love to know what you think! If not, I highly recomend it!
Book 1: A Natural History of Dragons
Book 2: The Tropic of Serpents
Book 3: Voyage of the Basilisk
Book 4: In The Labyrinth of Drakes
Book 5: Within the Sanctuary of Wings
Other Books: Turning Darkness into Light & From the Editorial Page of the Falchester Weekly Review

I borrowed them all from the library in 2017. I don't have many notes on them, though - just that I enjoyed them all.

>1 TheCloakedLibrarian: I haven't read any of them yet, but I am intrigued by the blue ink!

>1 TheCloakedLibrarian: I've got and read the first 3, but so far haven't picked up the other 2. Mine are the UK editions and #3 is not printed in blue ink (I also have #1 in ebook). Eventually I'll pick them all up in ebook. It's been a while since I read them, and I won't comment except to say I still have the print edition (but will dispose of them if I buy the ebooks).

I definitely have read the first two; I found the ink color sort of cool and sort of distracting. It's been a minute though.

I’ve read the first two and really enjoyed them. I haven’t looked to see if my library has the others.

>3 clamairy: Interesting choice right? That's not carried-over to the other books though, which is interesting as well...
8TheCloakedLibrarian
>4 Maddz: They're largely only available as ebooks now - which I think is quite unfortunate given how beautiful the books are, but I will admit - it would be nice to have my whole library at my fingers.
9TheCloakedLibrarian
>5 reconditereader: So far the ink being blue is only in book three, and apparently it's not a global phenomenon. It was definitly distracting at first, but once the story got going I hardly even noticed it anymore.

>6 catzteach: I love how they read more as science fiction than they do fantasy - because even though the series is about dragons, it's the concept of "if they were real, how would a scientist study them?" and I think Lady Trent is a great protagonist.

>8 TheCloakedLibrarian: Yes, I know. I'm still waiting for a price drop, especially for ones I have. #1 I picked up at 99p, but so far the others remain at £4.99+.

>10 TheCloakedLibrarian: exactly! I love how she’s true to herself and she wasn’t going to change.
13TheCloakedLibrarian
>12 catzteach: Yeah, and how honest she is about her past - talking about things that could've been bigger scandles than the things people wrote about her in the news... I love it when a character is honest with themselves.

I've read the first two, and enjoyed them, but never quite got around to continuing the series. Even the 2nd was starting to feel a little contrived in places. How well do the rest of them hold up?

>14 reading_fox: I haven't read 4 or 5, but about a month ago I finished reading the 3rd one. It was good, but it definitly felt the most contrived of the first 3. Still a lot of fun though.

Finished reading book 4 maybe a month ago? It was really good - and we FINALLY get an explanation as to why Issabella is known as Lady Trent. :) Looking forward to reading book 5 here soon!
