That's what they had said before. Had me totally confused!

It seemed like the identity of Al Jama wasn't really that important anymore.

I still wasn't totally convinced, no matter how many times the authors tried to persuade us. I still thought Ali Ghami was the more likely candidate.
Assad has been working at the docks for eighteen months - where on Earth would he find the time to sneak away and do terrorist-y things? I just couldn't see it happening...
