'The Story Of The Countryside' is the first of a five book series of which 'The Village' is the first. Published in 1943 by the OUP in association with the National Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs with lovely illustrations by John Austin. The book is divided into two parts - the first The Story Of The Village tells the story of a typical English village,and because of the date at which this book came out,some of it involves war refugees ect. In part two entitled Your Village,the young reader is invited to draw maps and plans,to construct lists of inhabitants together with age groups and jobs.Also how to explore the village and the surrounding area.
This little book has been with me for quite a few years now and although I have always lived in the Town rather than in the (nearby) Countryside,this book has always fascinated me and been one of my favorites.… (mais)
