The World Video Game Hall of Fame

Unfortunately the brevity of the book limits each entry to a very short summary. Also, as you get closer to current year the choice of games becomes ridiculous. You end up with Mario, Doom and Zelda shoulder to shoulder with Nancy Drew and That Dragon Cancer. The summaries also often turn a bit pretentious, which would be amusing if I didn't know the author was serious.
