A seemingly imposing book to avaition's historical roots, History of Flight readers can be reassured that excessive page number does not have to overwhelm. A well written and exactly detailed book, HoF covers all the bases of man's skyward journeys -both civilian and military, both fixed and rotary wing, both success stories and remotely humorous failures. HoF provides a vast collection of photographs for those needing visual stimulation. While still a captivating read, records of dogfights and water-cooler-esque maintenance journals find little room, replaced by punctual text-book descriptions. Nonetheless, History of Flight proves its worth through consistency to fact and an underlying inspiration to the flyboy in us all.
