Money Solves a Multitude of Problems

Michelle Richardson’s “It’s Simple” tells the story of Tia and Chase. Friends since high school, the two give their relationship a break while pursuing college degrees. With college out of the way, the two decide to give love a try. Easier said than done as Chase is drafted to the L.A. Lakers and Tia is across the country working within Obama’s administration. With the pressure of day-to-day living and maintaining a bicoastal relationship, do Chase and Tia have what it takes to last?

The writing in “It’s Simple” shows that Michelle Richardson is indeed a writer. I appreciated the representation of strong black families. Though the writing was strong and good, my only gripe with the story is that in writing about a character of such wealth or in an attempt to elevate above poverty, things at times were unrealistic and TV-like. Also, the problems or drama was very light. I would have liked for there to have been deeper or more serious issues to address.

Overall, “It’s Simple” is an entertaining read and Michelle Richardson is an author I look forward to reading more from.
