This was a fun quick read. It's meant for kids, fans of the old show, and fans of the new movie. Don' expect much story wise, but do except fun.

The second Over the Garden Wall comic book series goes out with a whinny as Fred the Horse narrates four fables/fairy tales revolving around minor or previously unknown characters from The Unknown. Neither Wirt or Gregory appear anywhere in the book except in cover images, which might be the basis for some sort of deceptive advertising class action lawsuit if anyone cared enough to pursue it.

These stories are not very good. One is even in rhyme. But hey, if you were wondering what happened to the tea merchants in the haunted house from the cartoon series, you'll get an answer here. So that's got to make at least two people happy, right?… (mais)

Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice continue their journey through the Unknown, stopping in a small town populated by wooden dolls in order to buy Greg a pair of new shoes. However, they have no money so Wirt tries to find an odd job to afford the footwear, but he gets into more than he bargained for when he starts babysitting some small wooden dolls.

This was an interesting addition to the graphic novel universe built up around the show of the same name. As the show's episodic nature allowed for the possibility of multiple adventures, this could easily fit into the timeline. The mystery of the wooden dolls' town was intriguing and made for a compelling read. The interactions between the main characters is always delightful as well.

The illustrations in this title didn't match the animation of the show, which I felt was unfortunate.

I read another book in this series last year: Super Secret Crisis War. And since the Powerpuff Girls always were my favourite Cartoon Network series, I was glad to see they made a sequel.

I enjoyed this story even more (I always like the nostalgic feeling I get from reading it, it's a trip down memory lane for me) but the story in this one was more coherent and there was a better explanation for there being different universes with different drawing styles. All the favourite characters make their appearances but the focus lays on the Powerpuff Girls and Dexter and his sister.

I would like to read more of their joint adventures!

Thanks to the publisher and Netgalley for providing me with a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
