This is an in depth report on the involvement with the Second Boer War of 1899 to 1902. A small army is put to its first overseas commitment, and how it fared. the Australians and the New Zealanders also sent contingents, and the results were encouraging for the Committee for Imperial Defence. Canada did gain experience in organizing troops for shipping forces overseas, and begin on the high reputation it has maintained for soldiers ever since.
While we had no large battle honours, and the troops were largely parcelled out piecemeal to bolster gaps in the British Armies in theatre, that experience was also useful in building up lists of things to be avoided next time. A useful read for smaller countries armies when they have to co-operate with larger ones in operations.… (mais)
