Gaby Hinsliff

I don't really know what I'd expected to find between the covers of the book but I didn't feel that it delivered what it promised from the blurb; "a guide for guilt-torn parents" or indeed "uplifting". However it does deliver by drawing upon research. I found the book interesting up to a point but after reading the same thing repeated in several chapters my interest began to wain by the half-way point. There were a lot of references to high-earners who possibly can make the drastic changes that Hinsliff talks about; what would have been good is for it to be more accessible to those on low wages.

What I did like was the use of research and looking at how lives/times had changed. The families interviewed for the book provided some interesting ways in which the labour was divided up and how the children were looked after. Whilst it isn't a book I'd readily recommend to friends it did essentially have some good ideas; for me though they just got lost amongst the narrative.… (mais)
