2124. Seed/Harvest: A History of the Archdiocese of Dubuque edited by Mary Kevin Gallagher, B.V.M. (read 30 Jan 1988) I found this an uneven book. It is written by six different authors and is filled with pictures--many of the pictures seem totally irrelevant to the subject of the book. The most interesting portion of the book to me was Father Bill Willkie's account of the Archbishop Beckman era, which tells the sad story of the archbishop's financial stupidities. His fatal flaw was a complete lack of judgment about mere money. Over all I was entranced by much in the book.… (mais)
