- Anna Farwell de Koven was a daughter of Illinois politician Charles B. Farwell. She graduated from Lake Forest College in 1880. She later married Reginald de Koven, a composer, and became a prominent society hostess at their home in New York City. She wrote novels, including A Sawdust Doll (1895), and non-fictional works that included a two-volume biography of John Paul Jones (1913), and a study of spiritualism, A Cloud of Witnesses (1920).
