As far as gallery guides go, this is a good one. Informative textual snippets and interesting images presented in glossy black and white plates. This guide traces the "beguiling" language used to promote the Americas, from the era of settlement (sixteenth century) to the era of tourism (20th century). It also showcases the excellent collections at SMU's magnificent DeGoyler Library.
