Despite the clichés and the lack of character growth, I thought this book was enjoyable and I wanted to know what would happen to the characters. I am hoping that the sequel will show more character development/growth and be a bit more original in terms of the plot.

While a fairly formulaic hero quest, The Blackstone Ritual keeps a good pace and the worldbuilding is interesting and well developed.

I got a feeling early on that this was going to develop into quite a longer story as many characters were introduced and kind of left behind with a distinct feeling that they would be returning at a later date. The typical young hero storyline but as I said a few unusual twists. If fantasy and adventure are your cup of tea then this set of books should be just the crumpets you are looking for. I hope to be able to upgrade the rating on this book when I get a chance to read the second book of the series.… (mais)
