I draw the line at non-consensual engagements as part of the trope between the MCs. About halfway into the book, the main characters engage in their first direct interaction, where the FMC is assaulted by the MMC. I read through the scene thinking that the FMC would decide it was her kink since just a few pages before, she'd talked about how much she loved to be scared, leading me to think she was going to consent. But after the scene the FMC reflects on the 'violation' and I stopped reading from there; I just can't get behind non-consensual romance as a trope.… (mais)

Don't expect anything similar to the first book. This one leans heavily into the sex trafficking angle, which is fine, but the depravity was way beyond anything I expected.

Hunting Adeline de H. D. Carlton

Wow. Yep just wow. While this book is much darker, there is beauty to it. The horrors that Addy endured, the pain Zade goes through. All the darkness they both deal with as they are reunited.

I loved how Addy not just survives her personal hell, but with the help of Zade and Sibby, becomes even stronger. How she and Zade becomes flip side of the same twisted coin. Yin & Yang. The dark God and his dark Queen.

It was great for smut but I really wish it had been Claire instead of the mom who sent the envelope to Addie. Claire tugged at my heartstrings and I felt so much more connected to her character than that of the mom.
