Greg gave my husband a copy of the book and wanted his thoughts. I read it because we knew him, even though it is a genre I don’t like. At the time, I avoided first-person stories, even in genres I do like. I didn’t like the book because it isn’t the style I like in the first place, but I liked that he described his characters as more than two-dimensional. He added details to make the story seem more realistic. That’s good. Given that I don’t like the genre but read the entire book means I would give it 3 stars. ( )

Actually a little better than I thought it was going to be going into it. Greg Rucka manages to spin out a pretty taut, compelling thriller, even if some parts of it feel like they're stretching the possibilities (I lost track of how many times I found myself thinking "how is Kodiak not locked up by now"). I'll definitely go for another go-around with Kodiak et al. ( )

Chronologically, this is the first of Greg Rucka's Atticus Kodiak novels (and the first of any of his novels). It's an action novel with an unusual degree of character analysis. At the same time, it tangentially examines one of the most perplexing social problems facing our culture. ( )
