Anne Beddingfeld is on her own and ready for adventures when one comes her way. She sees a man die in a tube station and picks up a piece of paper dropped nearby. The message on the paper leads her to South Africa as she fits more pieces of the puzzle together about the death she witnessed. Tirando isso essa é uma história bem mais ou menos com mais cara de aventura do que de romance policial. Não tem jeito, eu gosto mesmo das história que tem um crime e uma investigação e não algo do tipo espionagem, crime organizado etc.
Nesse livro temos um homem que cai nos trilho de um trem após se assustar com algo que viu e morre eletrocutado. Um homem, de terno marrom, se aproxima dele alegando ser médico e depois sai correndo. Em outro lugar uma mulher é assassinada dentro de um casarão. Anne Beddingfeld presencial a primeira morte e desconfia que o assassinato da mulher tem alguma relação com isso e então parte para uma investigação por conta própria. Porém há mais coisas por trás de tudo isso e ela pode acabar atraindo a atenção do enigmático "Coronel".
A história é ok, mas não mais do que isso e a autora coloca algumas ideias meio tortas sobre as mulheres aqui que eu não gostei muito. ( )
