Using the words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights first proclaimed by the United Nations in 1948, this book shows through each right how connected we as a society are, through illustrations from artists all over the world. ( ) This is the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, in picture book form. Each Article is illustrated by a different artist, and each one illustrates what the article means. The ideas of freedom and justice are highlighted, and the book has put the ideas into an accessible vehicle for children to interact with. The variety of illustrations speaks to the universal nature of the Declaration of human rights. The change from one page to the next gets your mind working and looking for all the details that help to explain what the right is all about. This is a wonderful book. I loved this book. I liked how the text is simply written and easy to understand. It is very straight forward. One thing I noticed is that the illustrations were very different from page to page. For example, one illustration is a fat, cartoon clown. Another is a painting of a very real-life person. One I got to the end of the book it showed all of the different illustrators. I really enjoyed the different styles of illustrations within the same book. The big idea is that everyone is equal and should have the same rights. The real value in this book is the images. They are so diverse and several of them had me scrambling to find out who the artist is. I loved the diversity of the art in this book, I think it helps the underlining message of the diversity in people well. I don't agree with all of the things the Declaration of Human Rights says, but I think it would be good for kids to be able to read it and decided what they think for themselves. It might be a good place to start a declaration of classroom rights in a third or fourth grade class. This beautiful book, which has been illustrated by 30 different well-known artists, is an excellent introduction to The Universal Declaration of Human Rights for children. Each right is explained in child-friendly language and is accompanied by several illustrations and each with its own accompanying font. When topics are difficult for younger children, the illustrations are done tastefully, as in the case for torture where the illustrator has chosen a doll which has been abused. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
