This book took me on such an emotional rollercoaster, made the tension between both characters so tangible I felt their love and their pain, and I loved every second of it. Viola and Jasper have both loved each other since they were little but for some reason Jasper took a step back to allow his brother Gus to pursue Viola, so he has always kept his feelings close to the vest while secretly longing for Viola. Once Viola and Gus split due to Gus’ infidelity and the Rockstar lifestyle she tries to move on from her life and doesn’t see or have much to do with her ex or friends, especially after Jasper dropped a bomb on her by letting her know that all his songs were written for her. Years later these two find themselves in a weird situation that can’t be helped, and Viola oversees taking care and helping Jasper’s autistic daughter, who is beautiful and brilliant, while Gus is out to win her back not knowing Viola is truly done and over with him. At times I would get mad at Viola for allowing Gus to get so handsy with her in front Jasper because she had to know it upset him, but I would also get aggravated with Jasper because he couldn’t handle their situation and lashes out at Viola. It is beyond obvious these two are meant to be together, but can Jasper let go of his insecurities and go after the girl of his dreams or will he let the past and current issues dictate what he wants again? I have so many questions about what will happen from here and what is up with Viola’s mother and friend because Jules started behaving awfully there towards the end and what will happen to Jasper and Viola. This is a duet and does end on a cliffhanger, but the second book isn’t too far behind this one and it is going to be so worth the wait. ( )

Good lord

This author was one of my favorite discoveries of 2019. This book is an example of why. The maelstrom of emotions that she makes me feel is insane. Her characters are delicious and flawed. They hurt like I hurt and the feel joy or sadness as I do. They are real and relatable. ( )
