This must be either a dream or I must live on Mars and only came down for a visit, at which time I read an earthling book,"Ghosts," that I did not understand. That's the only way I can reconcile the reviews of this book with the book I actually read. This is one of the most inadvertently hilarious "dramas" I've ever read. The spelling errors were amazing, and frequently quite funny. In one very "dramatic" scene, the ghost is threatening the protagonist with what he's going to do. He say he's going to be..(turn the page).."Wreacking havoc!" I burst out laughing, "What? He's going to wreack havoc?" I'm suddenly jerked out of watching the action of this "dramatic" scene right back onto my couch with a book in my hand. There were also problems with "continuity." At one point the protagonist made a point of putting something under the couch where he is sleeping, but when he gets it out, he takes it from under his pillow. While the plot was juvenile, at times it was fair, but how could you get into it enough to get "really scared," (as apparently readers were), when you kept laughing? What a ghost story! I really enjoyed this book. It has a great story and is written well. It's full of mystery, murder, romance and ghosts...What more could you ask for? At one point I thought i had it figured out and then it took a different twist and had me scratching my head. It also has a little pop at the end that was icing on the cake. If you can get your hands on this one, i do recommend it. I love a good ghost story but they are hard to find. THIS is one of the best I have ever read. Unfortunately, I believe it is out of print, but if you find it in a used bookstore or if it is re-issued - grab it! It may make you ask yourself - How do you know that each individual in a large group of people is actually a living being, or could you possibly be seeing a ghost without knowing? - Yeah, see what I mean? Eerie with a Whoa ending. This is a really good ghost story. It has a cast of varied and interesting characters, great pacing and suspense, an engaging and unpredictable plot, and a fresh perspective in a cliche'd genre. The only reason I didn't give it a perfect score was because the dialouge comes across a bit cheesey here and there, but overall it's not enough to turn the reader off. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

Nantucket Island is a peaceful place to vacation in the summer...for those who are unaware of its tragic past. Each June, parishioners gather in the comfort of Reverend Osaro's church to listen as locals relate their first-hand experiences with spirits in town. Detective Tim Brooks, forced to question his belief in the supernatural, takes on the most vile of ghosts imaginable to save the entire island from its wrath. Bodies pile up as he races to figure out who this spirit is and why it is so malevolent. Who will fall victim next? An innocent vacationer? The starlet, Annette? The unorthodox minister? Or perhaps Tim himself? An elderly woman's turning table holds the key to discovering Nantucket's bloody past, and perhaps putting an end to the senseless murders on the island. Tim finds help in some unlikely places, but will it be enough? Não foram encontradas descrições de bibliotecas. |

30 years ago, these stories were unusual, new, and great for putting a chill down the bravest of spines..... and that is no small thing. But the stories have been told and retold now, and the storylines are no longer as original. Unfortunately, a revision will not fix this.
Noel Hynd is a memorable writer, and he has a hefty fan base reviewing this novel on Amazon. This book is well written and narration is strong. It starts off slower, but about half way through, it moves faster, and holds the readers attention until the end. Don't get me wrong... it's worth reading.
I would have enjoyed the book more if I had not read all the reviews of those who were scared out of their mind 30 years ago, and that were able to rediscover the creepiness that they remembered.
I'm glad I read it, but I think the rave reviews will be written by those who were the first to read "Ghosts" and who kept it alive in their memories throughout the past three decades.
