Especially, when it is so much more than the blurb. This book had a great blurb too. Fantastic characters, story, and outcome. I enjoyed the fact that the author stayed true to the language and didn't try to keep this in standardized English especially considering the location. My only real complaints were in regards to Tara, the stepmother, and Aiden's mom. I wanted that fleshed out more. I was left with a lot of questions. Otherwise, very enjoyable story. Her Lifeline is the supposed romance between Ward and Erin. Ward is the best friend of Erin's older brother. She has a huge crush on him as a young girl. They are separated in the wake of a tragedy and are brought together years later by another tragic event. I have to say that I did not enjoy this book. First of all, the story takes place in Scotland and the author uses a Scottish dialect in the writing. This was awkward to read. Secondly, this book was just down right sad and heavy all the way through. Some of the serious subjects included are sudden tragic death, alcoholism, and abuse both physical and sexual. The romance between Ward and Erin just doesn't seem genuine. Even with their past taken into account, they move too fast and there is an uncomfortable sex scene that just seems so sudden and out of place in the story. I felt it was just thrown into the book because the author felt it was needed, but I really didn't think it was necessary to the story to even include such a scene. To top it off, if the book wasn't sad enough to begin with, the author throws in one more sad twist at the end that really takes the cake. Reversing that twist might have saved the book for me. I really loved Until Harry by this author which was the reason I was excited to read this book. I was so disappointed. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
From New York Times bestselling author L.A. Casey comes an irresistible tale of first love and second chances. Erin has had a crush on her brother's best friend Ward for as long as she can remember. But eleven years ago he disappeared from their lives--breaking Erin's trust, and her heart. When the person they both love most--Erin's brother Tommy--is nearly killed in a terrible crash, she and Ward are thrown back together for the first time. Their lives couldn't be further apart. Erin still lives at home, working two jobs and dealing with a series of family disasters. Ward, now a multibillionaire entrepreneur and a household name, seems determined to make amends--but it may just be too little too late. And while Erin can't deny feeling a spark at the sight of Ward, is it a spark of love or burning resentment? At odds with one another but forced to share their heartache, have Erin and Ward really drifted apart forever, or have they finally found the anchor they both so desperately need? Never thought I would read the word -nae so much in my life and that doesn't include other words I have found to be a turn off. I understand it's the way the characters accent but it got a little annoying after a while that I considered dropping this book. Despite that, it was a decent read. Nothing to brag about.
Even though Erin and Ward were the main love interests, I found my self picturing Jesse and Erin together since their relationship seemed more wholesome, and their chemistry was better but I guess you can't win them all. ( )
