Spanish people colonized the Philippines, so the dominant religion is Catholic. There are few Muslims and some Protestants. Many children help their parents with chores, and some work on the streets selling newspapers. There are different tribes and some children try to preserve their culture by practicing traditional dances, but some children have plans to live in the city once they are old enough. Most of the people live in rural areas, and they produce vegetables or rice. Many children walk to school for an hour or two. Rice is served in almost every meal, and is a great part of the Philippines economy. Some teenagers work as a pedicab. A pedicab is a bicycle that has an attached carriage, and people put anything that can fit in the pedicab. The children of Philippines are eager to better themselves. I enjoyed the book, and now I want to go to the Philippines. Students can learn a lot about the Philippines through this book. Students can learn about different tribes, foods, and sacrifices that Filipino children have to do to attend school. For an activity I would try to make a traditional Filipino dish, so that children can experience Filipino culture. ( ) sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha
