I really liked this book! I was given an ARC copy for an honest review and I'm glad I read it! I haven't read any of this series before but I will be going back to read the earlier books.

Georgia Davis is a former cop turned PI. She gets a note claiming it's from her sister who is pregnant. Georgia doesn't know she has a sister but she's determined to find out. Her journey takes her to small towns, Russian mobs, crooked doctors etc. It is a wild ride for sure but in the end, it's all worth it.

You really get to know Georgia and care about her and you have to root for her sister because she's so young and naive and has such a hard life.
Of course, there's romance and you have to hope that Georgia can learn to open up and keep the relationship going. But I guess we'll have to wait for the next book in the series to find out. Can't wait!! ( )

Georgia Davis, former cop, now private investigator, gets an odd "no one there" phone call while investigating a flash mob store robbery. Shortly thereafter, she gets a note in the mail, written on a deli food wrapper, that claims to be from her half sister Savannah, saying that she's in Chicago and pregnant, and will Georgia please find her?

Georgia didn't know she had a half sister. She hasn't heard from her mother since JoBeth left her father when she was a child.

And so begins a frightening journey through sex trafficking, baby selling, organ selling, and the Russian mob.

In alternating chapters, we get Georgia's viewpoint as she searches for her unknown sister, and Savannah's, starting months earlier, as her relationship with her mother breaks down, she runs away intending to find Georgia, and stumbles into the grip of Russian criminals. This is the fourth book in the series, so there's some back story I didn't have, but there's enough included that I wasn't left puzzled or confused. Georgia is a complicated person with some serious issues, but a solid, decent character underneath. While looking for her sister, she's working through her own issues, and learning some things she didn't necessarily want to know about herself and why previous relationships didn't last.

We get to know Georgia. We get to know Savannah. And we get to know some scary things going on in the darker corners of the criminal underworld.

I like Georgia and her sister. There's a good plot that moves well, and good character development. I suspect it would be even better if, as intended, I'd read the earlier books, but now I'm definitely interested in doing so.

Recommended.

I received this book as a gift from the author. ( )

Sister found, Sister lost, Georgia Davis has a huge case to follow up on
I've had the privilege of reading several of Libby Fischer Hellman's books over the past few years and I have never found one I didn't enjoy! Every book is different, every story is intense. Her main characters are amazing, well-fleshed out, and comfortable to know. One thing I found interesting was how her characters interacted between books at times, sort of like brief cameos. Through all the various genres she has written, this one really stands out, perhaps mainly for its tone and subject.

Well written as always, there are so many different lines we could follow and never get lost. Georgia is an unusual person for having been a cop previous to becoming a private investigator; she has a few personal traits that hold her back from fulfillment, particularly friendly communication, but within her work abilities she definitely has the spunk and invaluable investigating gene. The subjects covered are unfortunately very real and very difficult to deal with, trafficking possibly most common whether drugs, artifacts, babies, young women, body parts, etc. Yet this happens all too often in the world of today. Libby definitely knows how to get acknowledgement of crimes found in many large cities, even smaller towns. These things don't just happen, these crimes are worldwide and she handles the content with feeling. Cleaning up any of them will be a long hard road for all fields of crime busting and freedom seeking. Friendly helpful conversation between Ellie Forman and Georgia Davis here and there in this storyline is brilliant. These are two characters who have their own books by this author, it isn't usual that you will find them in the same book, but personally I thought it was genius. ( )

* I received a copy of this book for fee in exchange for an honest review.*

I read the book in one sitting; it was that good. This book deals with baby selling, prostitution, stealing human organs, mystery, family, and more. The characters were believable and well-developed, in my opinion, I would definitely read more books by this author. ( )
