"Sookie Stackhouse attracted vampires, werewolves, and various otherworldly creatures. Even fellow authors fell in love with her and Charlaine Harris's "magical and mysterious twist on traditional vampire stories" (Houston Chronicle). And though Sookie's story has come to an end, these tales of her and the characters who populated her world will give you a different perspective on the series you thought you knew... In "Wing and a Prayer," Rachel Caine sends Kenya Jones and Kevin Pryor to Dallas on a search for a not-too-bright robbery/murder suspect--who just happens to be connected to a ring of criminals led by a dangerous vampire. Witch Amelia Broadway decides to test a folk legend about witches being able to communicate with the winds, but she isn't prepared for the stormy consequences, in Seanan McGuire's "Knit a Sweater out of Sky." While Sookie and Bill Compton are in Dallas, a Food Network crew unexpectedly shows up to shoot at Merlotte's, but what they're really cooking up is a deadly surprise for Bill, in Jeff Mariotte's "Taproot." In "Widower's Walk" by MaryJanice Davidson, Eric Northman is passing through twenty-third-century Baton Rouge, which, for the first time in an age, doesn't have a vampire king but rather a shifter queen--from the famed and formidable Stackhouse-Merlotte clan... "Blending action, romance, and comedy, Harris has created a fully functioning world so very close to our own, except, of course, for the vamps and other supernatural creatures" (The Toronto Star). And now fifteen of today's most popular authors have come along for the ride"--… (mais)

This was about fifty times better than the last three Harris books (four if count that ridiculous Coda). None of the stories change the Sookie Universe as Harris wrote it, but they take you back to a time when you felt that the author actually still cared about the characters there. And the last story...Oh, my. The whole book was worth that. ( )

A really nice collection . She is not in the stories herself, but this is more about the people she knows. It fills in blanks in the storyline. There is a lot going on behind the scenes. ( )

Dead But Not Forgotten is 15 short stories of various characters lives from the world of Sookie Stockhouse. Written by several authors each story has a unique voice; with several leaving the reader wanting more. Some of the characters are well known while others may not be as familiar to the reader based on the original book in which they were introduced. Characters such as Kenya, Pam, Gram, & Eric give good stories yet leave the reader wanting more as to what happened next. Other stories such of that of Quinn leaves the story as cliffhangers and just stop without anything else being said. Overall Dead But Not Forgotten provides an interesting look into Sookie’s world yet could be easily passed due to not all of the stories having endings and others could use some more detail to understand. Some of the stories were okay, but for the most part they didn't interest me much. ( )

Southern Vampire fanfic by other novelists, who I don't think I've ever heard of, and edited by Ms. Harris herself. The stories varied in quality and some involved characters so minor I have no memory of them at all. None of them inspired me to look for the author's own work. ( )
