The name of Matthew Henry will always be associated with his famous commentary. All over the world there are Christians who still appreciate the value of his work. For three hundred years his exposition of the biblical text, devotional comments, practical wisdom, warm theology and helpful insights have been of immense value to Christians both in their private devotions and family worship. Preachers and teachers of God s Word have also found his work a useful tool in the preparation of their sermons and Scripture lessons. Matthew Henry died aged 51, greatly respected during his life for his preaching, wise counsel and published works. Since then his catechism and advice on prayer, as well as his popular commentary, have been a source of spiritual nourishment to many.,You've seen or heard of his Commentary - now read the book of the man. ‘The period between the Great Ejection of 1662 and the evangelical revival which broke out in the late 1730s is too little known and understood by evangelical Christians today. It was a time of trial and suffering for many, particularly ministers, who laboured for Christ in difficult, adverse conditions. Matthew Henry, author of the famous commentary on the Bible, was one of these and this short, readable biography of him by Philip Eveson is a welcome introduction to his life and ministry.’ Robert Strivens, Principal, London Theological Seminary. sem resenhas | adicionar uma resenha

For three hundred years his exposition of the biblical text, devotional comments, practical wisdom, warm theology and helpful insights have been of immense value to Christians both in their private devotions and family worship. Here is not only the writer, but also the preacher, the counsellor and the man of great prayer.Matthew Henry lived during a very difficult period of persecution for Christians who were not prepared to submit to Anglican worship and organization - often being treated as second class citizens. His legacy is one that churches, pastors, parents and individual believers can ill afford to ignore. Many know his commentary, but remain ignorant of the man himself.
