Readers will enjoy this title much more if they have read the first volume as well. Still, newcomers will find some enjoyment here. This tale is gritty and violent, making it highly attractive to teenage boys. Characters are enjoyable, from the lovingly bumbling Hodge to the harsh hunter Baltimore. Golden and Mignola make a fantastic team--though their stories can be overly complex, they are also interesting and quickly suck readers in. The reader will leave emotionally satisfied, even if they are not quite sure why. A muted color tone may seem drab until a splash of red blood is utilized to full dramatic effect; then one realizes how effective it is. ( )
