The YALSAblog is managed by YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) and offers those who are interested in young adult library services a chance to keep up on the latest news in young adult librarianship, and just YALSA in general. It also provides an “App of the Week,” which offers advice on useful apps for YALSA members, as well as “Tweets of the Week,” which compile a list of tweets that have to do with YA librarians and librarianship.

In addition, the blog offers helpful links to YALSA’s main website, the Hub (which is YALSA’s literature blog), YALS (the publication of YALSA), as well as the social networks YALSA is connected to. The blog also has a helpful tagging system so that you can quickly locate your topic of interest on the sidebar, such as Advocacy or Technology. In addition, YALSA members can apply to be a blogger, as well as teens 13 and older, so there’s a nice array of topics that would interest YA librarians.

YALSAblog is an excellent addition to YALSA’s main website; it offers YALSA members (and non-members!) a chance to stay connected to YALSA events and other YA topics. YALSAblog is an invaluable resource for those that want to make sure they keep up with YALSA news, and those interested in that will not regret adding the blog to their RSS feed. ( )

YALSA Blog. http://yalsa.ala.org/

The official blog for the Young Adult Library Services Association offers all manner of short-form content relating to YA in the library, from posts relating library issues, such as practice (“Level Up Your Leadership Skills: Be In Charge of Something”) or collection development (“Collecting Marvel and DC Comics for Teens”), to posts about current teen issues (“Online Harassment”) and teen technology (a regular “App of the Week” column). Bloggers are either YALSA members/staff or teens, and they offer valuable insight into library practice as well as present-day trends for young adults. The blog also acts as a social connection for practitioners, through comments, discussions of events and committees, or even posts showcasing tweets and instagrams of the week. YALSA’s accessible approach and straightforward delivery of multifaceted content make it a must-read for anyone interested in library services for teens. ( )

YALSA Blog is the official blog of the Young Adult Library Services Association (YALSA). It is a valuable resource for librarians who work with teens and young adults. It covers news, events, resources, activities, programs, and conferences that the librarians ought to know about. The blog is maintained by a group of volunteers who keep it updated with useful and interesting information and news. Bloggers are either YALSA members or teen volunteers. In addition to the regular blog posts, the blog also includes a calendar of events, an app of the week archive, and a monthly report from the president of YALSA. The topics of blog posts cover a wide range including music, teen services, youth participation, gaming, awards, news, programming, technology, school libraries, and more. The focus of the blog’s layout is the blog posts themselves with a menu of links clearly laid out on the right. The blog can be easily searched either by a dropdown list of topic categories or by using the search box. YALSA’s blog is something young adult and teen librarians need to be aware of and utilize to stay up to date. ( )

The Young Adult Library Services Association's YALSA Blog is an excellent resource for young adult librarians as it features posts on various types of programming that are appropriate for young adult populations and connects young adult librarians to the goings-on at YALSA. It includes posts including monthly president's reports, an App of the Week post, and information on topics such as how to choose a college. Some posts are actually written by teen bloggers, which provides much-needed insight into the needs of the population that young adult librarians serves. The blog features a minimalistic design that keeps the focus on the information in the posts, though finding the "next page" button can initially be a little confusing. It is also easily searchable and can be navigated using the pull-down categories menu. ( )

This official blog is put out by the Young Adult Library Services Association of the ALA, and it features post from many different librarians. The blog is updated Monday through Friday. There are all sorts of posts, from posts on teen-relevant media to programming ideas and professional development to updates on the goings-on in YALSA and the ALA. They post about an App of the Week every Wednesday. There are even some posts from teens about the issues that they actually face, so as to keep librarians in the know.
This blog is great due to the sheer variety of topics and perspectives covered in the posts. It also has very simple navigation, with options to choose older posts by month and year or by the category it has been tagged with. There are also links to the criteria for submitting a post or becoming a teen blogger for the site, an archive of Apps of the Week, and a YALSA calendar of events. This immersive blog is great for all librarians who work with teens and are looking for inspiration or to stay in the know with what is happening with teens and teen services. ( )
