Uses in the Classroom: This would be a great book to read on the first day of school, especially if I am teaching Kindergarten. The rhymes and pirate twist makes this story funny and engaging. Teaches kids that school is fun.

This story is a very fun, light hearted tale. Through the humorous story of pirates attending school children will learn about rhyming and accepting others. I believe this story teaches children that people from other cultures and backgrounds are really not that different from you after all. I would definitely recommend this book. ( )

Children love pirate story's, and may even wish to meet one. This books brings the pirate world to a modern day school, delighting children with the idea of pirates at school. Enthusiastic pirates meet bewildered students, while the pirates are eager to learn. Most of the story shows the students as disengaged from the pirates. It's not until the pirates are ready to leave, that the students interact with the pirates. This story is fun to listen to as it rhymes and has pirates as main characters, but it the lesson of the story is weak making the point that pirates would not work well within a classroom. The book represents multiple cultures.
The Illustration are inventive, humorous , while the artistry was created with watercolors, gouache, and colored pencil. ( )
