This was lovely! A wonderful read with some well-written d/s scenes for folks looking for that. Fenn is a very sad and anxious, but well-meaning narrator, and folks who are into horse stuff will probably like this a lot (I don't particularly care either way, but I enjoyed this, likely because I like magic horses). The world-building is also quite fun, and I love the cast.

This also gave me m/m "Howl's Moving Castle" vibes, particularly the book version, in a good way, so there's that.

Absolutely lovely from start to finish. Wonderful pacing, interesting characters and character arcs, adored Squab, and just loved the gentle and subtle worldbuilding that created an interesting and fascinating world. Morgrim in particular was just wonderful to read through the eyes of Fenn. Gorgeous book.

I enjoyed this. It reminded me of K.J. Charles' Magpie Lords series, especially the first book. The characters grew on me as they went along. And I'll probably look for other books by this new-to-me author.

My favorite aspect of this story is John's magic, and how it goes a bit wild at the end. The whole is often visceral and frequently confusing for the characters. Nothing's as easy as they wish. The last scene's just as visceral, but lovely.
