Lesley Parr

This was a good middle grade story about brothers evacuated from London with other children in 1939 and sent to live with a family in Wales. The older brother Jimmy has trouble settling. He finds a skull in the base of a tree. The story is about him coming to terms with living away from his family, about making new friendships and working out who was the skull. I will certainly read this author again.

I loved this story, the characters, the setting (1974 Wales), the friendships and brotherly love. Includes author's note on "Where the '70s Takes Us..." I've read Lesley Parr's other novels, The Valley of Lost Secrets and When the War Came Home, and I'll read anything she writes. Can't wait for her next book!

Wonderful historical mystery set after World War I in Wales. I loved the setting and characters, strong girls and boys both.
