I very much enjoyed this book for several reasons: the illustrations, the language, and the plot.
I mainly enjoyed the plot of this book because young children could get interested in magic quite easily. The magic presented in this plot is the most basic magic that there is, making something disappear which is good for young children because it wont confuse them and it is very easily explainable which is another reason why I enjoyed this plot. It showed the reader how a magician might be able to pull off such a stunt. Molly, one of the main characters in the book, was able to perform this trick easily, allowing the reader to believe that if Molly can do it then so can they.
The illustrations were also very helpful when it came to assisting the story line of the book. The illustrations were pleasant and helped the reader understand exactly what the characters are talking about. During Molly’s magic trick, the illustrations showed the sequence it would take to pull off the performance: a secret door, Gil pressing a button, then the elephant going down the secret door. It allowed the reader to comprehend the connection between the words and the illustrations.
Lastly, I enjoyed the language of this book. Seeing how this book is deemed Step 2 (reading with help) from the Step into Reading program, it was appropriately labeled. The words in the book were not too complicated and the sentences were short and to the point. There are some words that a young reader may require help with: magician, elephant. Despite such words, a child just learning how to read would be able to read this book without much difficult.
The main idea of this book is learning something new can be fun and easy.… (mais)
