Likely interesting only to people who are into family histories and genealogy. Green tells only what she knows about an aunt who died, plus a lot of her thoughts as she tried to find out why the subject was taboo in her family.
Helpful if you are going through your own research project and are looking for some ideas on how to make progress. While Green only knew about her aunt's life in Wisconsin, she needed to search records in nearby states to finally get more details.

A nice guide book to 22 caves, 5 mines, 3 tunnels, 12 other underground spaces/wine cellars, 3 museums (plus more listed under other categories) and 8 other oddities in Wisconsin. Includes 4 caves in Iowa & 4 mines in Michigan (Upper Peninsula). Gives an overview of what you might experience on a visit for each with directions, hours, things to be aware of.
As a WI resident, I had hoped to learn about new places to explore, and there were several good leads here, but mostly this just reminds me to explore more at the state parks and natural areas I already knew about. Several of these sites can help you learn, such as Time Travel Geologic Tours, led by a geologist who will give you some perspective on the millions of years of history of this land. While she only includes 1 cave that is unsupervised, she does give contacts for caving groups if you are the kind of person who wants to do real spelunking.
Includes glossary and index.
