I found it to be a chore to read, and didn't get much out of the effort. If it had been longer, it would have ended up on my DNF shelf.

Intriguing.

Wow! I like the sheriff, I like his granddaughter she definitely has spunk. Lots of action when a Mexican cartel sends payback to a Texas Deputy Sheriff who arrensted their drug smugglers.

I suggest you read this series in order because the back story comes from the previous book.
