So far, I like her books. This was a courtroom story and was enjoyable. A quick read.

I enjoyed this book. It's just a murder mystery, but I liked the twists in it. An enjoyable fast read.

Description
Marty and her lover, former Barnstable County public defender Harry Madigan, have plunged into private practice, taking on the controversial case of Hammond-a distraught father who shot, on live television, the man who raped and murdered his seven-year-old son. Then, to add to single mother Marty's impossible work load as Christmas approaches, a savagely battered woman client is charged with the stabbing death of her attacker, a brutal parole officer and live-in boyfriend. Now Marty has two seemingly impossible battles to win against her former colleagues.

This was a solid legal mystery that was mostly courtroom drama with a touch of humor. Parts of the law and legal proceedings are stated clearly when needed. Marty and Harry are likable and relateable characters. The only thing I didn’t like was twice when Marty did something risky when it wasn’t necessary. Otherwise, I enjoyed this and would read more by this author.

Book Description:
Charles Kendrick, the U.S. Senator from Massachusetts, has been named a "person of interest" in connection with the disappearance of his twenty-five-year-old spokesperson. Attorney Marty Nickerson is representing Kendrick, a high-profile resident of Cape Cod, but soon finds that parts of his story don't check out. Meanwhile, Marty and her law partner -- and lover -- Harry Madigan, are defending ex-con Derrick Holliston, who stands accused of murdering a popular local priest on Christmas Eve. He admits the killing, but claims, improbably, that he acted in self-defense. Marty and Harry are facing two mounting legal battles and two clients whose stories don't make sense.

In the case of ex-con Holliston, there was a lot of good courtroom drama, good viewpoints from both defense and prosecutor, and good explanation of the law, when needed. The second case started out interesting but didn’t get that far before it was resolved a bit abruptly. But I enjoyed the Marty Nickerson character and the mostly well-done story. I’d like to read more by this author.
