Loved the emotive oil paintings of Frank Morrison. It brought this powerful and inspirational story about civil rights movement and the children's crusade to life.

The text of this book is fairly simple and seems to appeal to 2nd and 3rd graders. (Coretta Scott King Honor Award) The story takes place in 1963 in Birmingham Alabama where students of color describe their struggles with segregation. Children and their parents attend a meeting with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. where they are discussing their next protest which will be led by children since their parents would expect backlash from their jobs. The children lead the march to success despite obstacles from police.
