The middle book in a series that documents the myriad supernatural tales of North Carolina organized by county. This book, the second, deals with the Piedmont area (the middle of the state).

Included are tales of ghosts, devils, witches, and warlocks causing havoc across the state over the years. There is the story of Devil's Rock, various tales of ghost-guarded treasures, menacing warlocks, and mad witches. Barefoot even includes the tale of the Bell Witch, who was originally from North Carolina!

An excellent collection of tales, all well told, and a good primer for some key North Carolina history and Carolinian ghost stories. These are the kind of tales passed on down the line in a family, hearkening back to the member who was there when it happened, or at least knew someone who was there. I have the other two books in this series, but I haven't read them just yet. And while I normally would never start a series in the middle, these volumes are split by territory, so the order doesn't really matter.
