This is a good example of realistic fiction because it involves a girl telling the story of her deaf sister and how they celebrated her birthday. This book allows the audience to learn more about deafness and to be able to empathasize more with people who are deaf. It allows the audience to see into the life of a girl who is deaf. Heather is a round character in this story as we are constantly learning more about her and her exceptionality. At first all we know is that it is her 8th birthday, but then we find out that she is deaf (and what that means), she loves the zoo, she learns to talk at a special school, and that she likes the same things as other children.

Review: This book takes the idea of deafness and puts the information in a form that would make sense to kids. It uses pictures of a real girl who is deaf, and is narrated by her older sister who gives a first-hand experience story of how her deaf sister lives and how she is treated.
